US visas are limited so apply early to avoid any disappointment; applications open Feb/Mar with departures dependant on the employer's needs.
WHO CAN APPLY:
There are two classifications: J1 interns and J1 trainees
- J1 INTERNS: Must be post secondary students currently studying outside of the United States or university graduates who have been out of school for no more than 12 months.
- J1 TRAINEES: Must have a university degree or professional certificate from a foreign institute AND have at least one year of additional related experience outside of the US after graduation.
- OR Five years of experience outside of the US, in the field of training
