Spending money
When arriving in Canada participants are required to have a minimum of $1000 which may need to be produced for the Canadian Immigration Officer upon arrival in Canada. This spending money is necessary to cover expenses like housing and travel to your work site before your first salary payment.
Insurance
Canadian government regulations require appropriate medical and travel insurance for participants on the “ Work Canada” program. The policy offered through Awesome Placements is designed to meet Canadian government requirements and it is therefore compulsory to take our insurance. Please note, this is travel insurance and not a “medical aid” . It will cover you for hospitalization; emergencies and flying you home in the event of unforeseen crises.
Proof of fulltime student status
Applicants must be in full-time studies in the 12 months preceding their application. Students who have graduated and spent the last year studying one subject for example does not qualify as full-time studies and would not be eligible. All applicants are required to apply within six months of their last exam to avoid this kind of situation. Students completing practical training as part of a course of study counts as full-time studies as long as applicants were registered students with the institution at the time of their practical training. In addition, the Canadian High Commission would require proof of registration such as receipt for fees paid for the year etc.
Foreign Police Clearance Certificate
Students who have lived in another country other than South Africa for more than 6 months within the past 5 years need to apply for a Police Clearance Certificate for that country to complete their application.
