- Religious : Operated by Christian or Jewish organizations. Religious camps emphasize the value of their respective faiths through traditional camp activities. The level of religious involvement will vary from camp to camp. Counsellors should be prepared to lead religious activities and programs.
- Special Needs: Campers may include children and adults with physical, mental, behavioural and/or learning disabilities. Campers participate in many traditional camp activities. Counsellors should have general experience with special needs children or a willingness to learn and work in such a demanding but rewarding environment.
- Specialty: Emphasize specialized programming such as sports, music or weight loss. Sessions last 1 to 8 weeks. Counsellors should be prepared to teach 1 or 2 specific activities throughout the entire summer.
- Underprivileged: Run by non-profit organizations. The camps provide children from urban areas with a safe, positive camp experience. Camps seek staff with youth/social work experience.
- Family / Adult: Parents and children can participate in activities together or separately. Families come for weekend trips or week long vacations. Facilities are usually excellent vacation style settings.
- Day Camps: Campers often spend 8 or more hours at camp each day but don't sleep there. Camps may be located in cities, on college campuses or at traditional camps. Regardless of the location, camps must provide accommodations for international staff either on the camp site or with a host family.
- Agency Camps: these camps are run by bodies like YMCA and Salvation Army. Campers come from all parts of the community
